Teased yesterday, DICE and EA have announced a new Star Wars Battlefront mode, Blast.
Battlefront’s version of Team Deathmatch, Blast pits the Rebel and Imperial factions against each other in 10 versus 10 battles. If your team is the first to 100 kills, or is leading when the 10-minute round ends, you win the match, with DICE aiming to make it “immediate, addictive, and exciting until the very last kill.”
Focusing more on close-quarters action, Blast maps are smaller than maps in other game modes, built specifically for this mode. DICE adds that they aren’t just smaller versions of maps used elsewhere. As Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall explains:
Say you’ve just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth. Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you’ll definitely see a difference.
Other locations for Blast include interior levels on Endor and Sullust, and the dusty canyons of Tatooine.
Because there are no vehicles or Heroes & Villains in Blast, you’ll have to rely on weapon pickups laid throughout the map:
Whether you pick up a Droid scanning for nearby enemies or a turret that?ll control a zone for you, the pickups can really turn the tide of a Blast match. They are not around every corner though, so keep your eyes peeled.
Star Wars Battlefront releases on November 17 in North America and November 20 in Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
